"History: Versions of the Past".
A J P Taylor thought that history was ‘A version of the past’, but he also said: ‘History does not repeat itself; historians repeat each other’. Whereby lies a clue regarding the problem of ‘schools of history’: Whig, Marxist, Liberal, Cyclical, Christian, Islamic, Secular, Feminist, Green, Post-Modern, etc. The seminar hopes not only to address these matters, but also to explore the issues of historical standpoint, and history in education. Is history a narrative, a chronicle, a congeries of skills – or all or none of these? Come to the Norwood Arms on 1 Feb 2012 (CE) and help to cast a beam into the Past, assuming that there was or is one.

Wed. 15th. Feb. 2012. 7.30.p.m. FCH. Dr. Samaya Faroq, University of Gloucestershire. "Muslim Women in Sport".

Wed. 22nd. Feb. 2012. 7.30.p.m. FCH. Ronald Green, Author and Lecturer. "Nothing". (Based on his recent book "Nothing Matters: A book about Nothing").

Wed. 7th. March. 2012. GPS Post-New Year Meal (details tbc).
